Well, the answer to this question depends on how you're making money from your blog and what your conversion rate is for each channel.

Obviously, you won't know the conversion rates right now, but once you start selling a product, launching your freelance services, launching an online course, or contacting advertisers for blog sponsorships, you can calculate your conversion rates quickly instead.

Here's a quick example of what your conversion rate might look like when you sell your product, an online course, from your blog.

Let's say you have 1,000 monthly readers.If 2% of these readers turn into paying customers for your online course, there are 20 buyers.If your product costs $10, it's only $200.However, if your course costs $100, you've just earned your first $2,000.

Now you can also look at it in a much easier way.

  • Fewer readers = fewer sales
  • More readers = more sales

At the same time, you can work on changes to increase your conversion rate over time, and you can play around with your pricing to increase the average customer value as well.Sometimes math can actually be fun 😊

Sponsored content is a proven and true investment for brands of all kinds and works wonders in the right scenarios.This makes it a clear boon for all ways to make money on blogging.

Again and again, this method has not only proven to work for advertisers, but is also proven to help you make money with blogging at the same time.

What is sponsored content? It's when the company pays you a commission in exchange for your writing an article about them or a topic related to them, where their product, service, or brand is featured as the go-to resource for those of your readers who want to learn more.

It's one of those sweet deals between a blogger and an advertiser where you both really benefit from the relationship.

You've already built trust with your audience, so they trust you to recommend products you know and believe in. That's why I always recommend staying loyal to your audience when creating sponsored content.

So, how do you sponsor yourself? If you run a popular and heavily trafficked blog, you may already have sponsorship opportunities flooding your inbox.If that doesn't sound like where you are today, let's talk about what it takes to get sponsored content deals.

For starters, identify a handful of products and their companies that fit perfectly into your niche.

You will often find that they are already the products or services you are already using.Make a list of at least 10 products that you would like to advertise and that you could passionately support.

The next part is the hardest part, and it's not that hard (I promise).

Go to the websites of your top 10 products and find someone who works in marketing or PR at the company, and track down their email address using simple blogging tools like Hunter or Voila Norbert.Keep in mind that many companies that are open to sponsorships actively advertise a sponsorship email address somewhere on their contact pages.

Finally, it's time to send them a cold email with your offer to partner with sponsored content for your readers, with a strong emphasis on why they should earn sponsorship money.Here's an example of a sponsor introduction email you can use:

"Hi Mary,

My name is Ryan and I [il tuo prodotto]love it!I am actively running a blog on ryrob.com and would love to see if we could collaborate on a sponsored post on my blog.

I reach about [numero] monthly readers right now and also promote the post in my subscriber email [numero] list.Everything I write about is related to and [tua nicchia] [il tuo prodotto] fits perfectly with what my readers are looking for.

This is just a rough example of what you can say when you turn and keep your attention on why the sponsor should take the opportunity to reach your audience.

Remember to always keep it personal, you are sending an email to a real person, not a robot.

Ultimately, if you're going to follow the path of sponsored content, you'll need a media kit to highlight your sponsorship opportunities.

Having a media package is incredibly important not only to attract the right deals, but also to set prices in advance.In this next section, I'll guide you in the right way to create a media package that attracts and sells the right companies.

Don't worry, a media kit is fairly simple to create using Microsoft Powerpoint or Keynote, and you'll immediately get the benefits of having a single, concise document to share with potential advertisers.

Here are the essentials you need to include in your media kit to really make money and sponsor soil quality:

  1. A quick confusion about you. After all, you and your blog are the product.Why should sponsors invest in you?
  2. A breakdown of your readers. Who is your audience?What are their demographics?What are their interests?What they buy
  3. Your traffic report. This is where Google Analytics comes in. You'll need to show page view data so advertisers see how many people they'll reach.
  4. Advertising opportunities. What are you selling?Advertising space?Sponsored blog posts?Podcast ads?Affiliate partnerships?Email marketing on your list?All the above?
  5. Prices. It can be scary at first, but if you make sure the price is right for the size of your audience (and level of engagement), then you're on the right track.Check out other blogger media kits in your specific industry to see how they're evaluating their opportunities and how to compare.

As for pricing, I now charge $2,500 for a sponsored post to reach my audience, but when you're just getting started, it's more common to command anywhere from $100 to $500 if you have a engaged and growing readership base that will move the needle for your sponsor.

Make sure your media kit is clear, concise and visually appealing.Advertisers will want to download it and keep it while making the decision to spend money on you.

You'll also need an easy way for sponsors to get in touch with you, so they can reach out and roll the ball with an email or contact form.

2. Affiliate Programs

Let's talk about affiliate programs .Participating in (and promoting) most affiliate programs is probably easier than pursuing blog sponsorships, if you ask me.

Companies that already have built-in affiliate programs, are ready and willing to pay you money in exchange for referring your blog readers to them, which means you don't have to commit sponsors or invest time in creating your product before you start making money with blogging.

But, in order to generate significant income from affiliate marketing, it usually requires a good amount of traffic to your blog first.

What I like most about affiliate programs is that they skip the cold stretch phase required by other channels such as sponsorships and freelancers.Also, many affiliate programs like the best web hosting plans (even those with monthly paid web hosting plans) are well automated to get you engaged and promoted quickly.

Just like sponsorships, you get paid to recommend a product to your readers.The best part about affiliate programs is that many companies offer them.From Amazon's associates program to Target on eBay, to your budding small ecommerce businesses with high-converting landing pages looking to jump on the affiliate bandwagon, there are tons of options for joining lucrative affiliate programs.

What are the best affiliate programs for bloggers?

The best way to make money blogging with affiliates certainly depends largely on the niche you're writing in. Here are some of my picks for the best blogging affiliate programs:

To avoid being overwhelmed by this channel while you're just starting to learn how to make money with blogging, my advice is to focus only on a few (proven) affiliate programs that have close ties to the content you're creating (as I'm doing with my new blogging projects, MoneyTalk, and SmartWP) and I know your audience wants more.

3. Blog Advertising

Viewing inventory is undoubtedly the easiest, easiest (and fastest) way to start making money with blogging.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not basically saying negative.I mean that simple ad space is the main component when you're just trying to figure out how to make money with blogging – and it's the first channel I've personally pursued.But since it is relatively easy to do, it also tends to pay the least amount in terms of financial return.

For context, this simple blog advertisement (pictured below) on my blog here generates $800 to $1,200 per month in blog revenue based on about 300,000 monthly readers.

Of all the different ways to make money on the blog I'm engaged in, this is one of the lowest returns in terms of total dollars earned (especially for my amount of traffic).

The trade-off, however, is that I don't need any effort on a daily basis to make money blogging with this channel since I'm an approved publisher with the Carbon Ads advertising platform, which comes out and brokers deal with advertisers like Atlassian, Adobe, Slack, and hundreds of other tech tool companies who want to reach my audience.

Are blog ads still a legitimate way to make money on blogging?

In short, yes.Ad space is still an active component in many digital marketing campaigns, and for good reason.First, it mimics ads before the digital age: billboards, magazine placements, newspaper ads, and so on.On the right blogs (especially if you've followed my guide on how to name a blog creatively), ads can be an incredibly simple way to get a brand name out there and in front of your audience.

And now that we're spending countless hours on the internet (with the average person spending 24 hours a week online), it's easy to get ads in front of readers.

You can advertise on your blog and start earning blogs with this channel in various ways.

The most popular, of course, is to start with Google Adsense .You simply sign up, place a code provided by Google on your site where the ad will go, and advertisers will bid to reach your audience with relevant terms.

Keep in mind that when you use Google Adsense, you don't have a lot of control over what is advertised on your blog.If you want to stay loyal to your brand and engage your audience, try another ad platform that is more industry-specific and tightly controlled like the one I use (Carbon Ads) or look for other options that cater more closely to the audience you have—or want to get into.

If you want to maintain more in-depth control of the ads on your blog, then I recommend choosing to make money blogging with a channel like Sponsored Content (above) where you work individually with a sponsor who wants to reach your audience.

Sure, you need to find companies in your niche that want to advertise on your site, but you'll almost always be able to negotiate higher-paying deals with this approach.

Also, over time as your audience grows, businesses will start contacting you for sponsorship opportunities.

Sell your products and services

Asking other companies to pay you in exchange for sharing their products with your audience isn't the only way to make money with blogging.

When you're still thinking about how to monetize your blog, it's important to consider what you're really excited about (probably not advertising other companies' products, right?), As well as what you are personally adept at finding opportunities where you can sell your products and services to readers.

On the flip side though, if you're a chef who's sharing great new recipes and want to build a personal brand for yourself, it might ultimately be a better goal to start the learning process on how to make money with blogging by selling an eBook that's a simple collection of all your best recipes with gorgeous pictures and step-by-step tutorials.

The best part? Creating an online course can be as easy as shooting a series of short instructional videos that teach your blog readers how to do something meaningful based on your skills, experiences, and achievements.If you've excelled something, there are people out there who would gladly pay to benefit from your expertise and speed up their learning curves.

Major online course platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, and CreativeLive all feature a wide range of courses ranging from 30 minutes to 30 hours or more, with longer courses naturally requiring higher prices because they are often significantly more in-depth.

At the other end of the spectrum, an online course can take as long as you allow it.

My advice, while you're still learning how to make money with online blogging, is to start by creating a short course (less than 60 minutes of video content) on a very specific niche topic that can be taught without much hand by keeping along the way.

Take it from me … I have created 4 online courses in the last 5 years — all different in size, scope, and topics — we recommend that you start by creating a simple course the first time around the block.

How do you create your first online course?

First, you'll need to determine what skill or process you want to teach (and how long it will take to learn it).

So you'll need to validate the idea of the course with your readers, or go out and start conversations with your target customers, to make sure there's actually a paying audiencefor the course you want to create.

The niche of social media marketing is a great example of how you can make money blogging with an online course…

Let's say you're killing it on Instagram and your readers want to know how you do it.You can put together a course that teaches them step-by-step how to be an Instagram professional.Different course modules could focus on distinct topics such as:

  • The basics for taking engaging photos
  • How to find your ideal publishing schedule for your audience
  • Write enticing captions and leverage hashtags
  • Go from 0 to 1,000 followers in 90 days

An online course like this would be a great example of an evergreen guide that students can follow and implement in their spare time, meaning it can be a hands-free "set and forget" style resource, rather than something where students need to tune in for weekly live sessions.

This obviously makes this style a very attractive way to make money with blogs.

Health and wellness plans are another great example of how you can make money blogging in another niche with an online course.

  • Weekly training plans
  • Online community support

All of these different components would be designed to work together and bring students to a common ultimate goal or transformation.

The limit is when it comes to selling online courses as a way to make money on the blog.

As always thought, make sure the course is really relevant to your audience before investing a lot of time in creating.

Validating the course concept can be as simple as tweeting about your idea, talking about it on your Instagram story, or sharing a short blog post asking your readers and followers if this course is something they might be interested in.

Hear their feedback, ask the most engaged readers to put their money in their mouths, pre-order the course at a dizzying discount (the only real validation is whether people are willing to pay for your course) and then you can confidently create your course based on the feedback you receive.

Right, right… I know you probably started a blog because you're thinking, "I don't want to be in the physical product space, Ryan. I just want to write and make money blogs without creating products and shipping packages around the clock every day."

And I get it.I personally don't sell physical on my website (anymore), but listen to me on this because a lot has changed in recent years.

You no longer need to store your inventory: you can ship your products without ever having to print a shipping label or stock up on cardboard boxes.This relatively practical approach makes selling products a pretty interesting way to make money blogging today.

What is dropshipping? Dropshipping is a business model that you can use to run an online store without ever owning any inventory on your own.

Once you've made a sale from your blog, your supplier (a warehouse that packs and ships orders for sellers) will ship your products directly to the customer's door, at a cost of course.But you'll never have to worry about storing, packing, or shipping your products.

If you want to make money on blogging by selling physical products, let's go one step further… You don't even need to create your own products anymore.

You can find an existing product category on the market today (with proven demand and paying customers), then find a supplier on a site like Alibaba that will create a private label a version of that product, so you can start selling it yourself.

Examples of a few private label products you could sell include things like:

  • Vitamins, protein powders and food supplements
  • Yoga pants and sportswear for women
  • Backpacks, speakers, chargers and other travel accessories
  • Makeup and cosmetic products
  • Discover even more ideas right here

And remember that you'll also need to quickly create an online store closely linked to your blog to collect orders, gather customer information, collect payments, and update your orders along the way.

Oh!Now let's consider this real-life example from my previous business.

After finding a few online vendors who could make us high-quality phone cases with the kinds of designs we've seen trending at sites like Etsy and Amazon, we launched the company and turned it into a $160,000 side project in our first year, being good at marketing via Facebook and other online channels.

In addition, I had started a company blog that taught other people behind the scenes how they too could build a phone case business.

And for those who were serious about getting started, we sold them equipment and training on how to start their own version of the business we had perfected, creating a new revenue stream and leading to one of the first ways I learned how to make money blogging.

Choosing to sell physical products as a way to make money with blogging is a personal choice that you have to decide for yourself based on the niche you are in and the type of business you want to start.

Physical products are great when you have a diehard group of readers or the product aligns very naturally with your niche and is proven to be in demand.

If you have followers who would be excited to wear your brand, you can also go the path of swag.I'm talking about T-shirts, mugs, prints, and other branded items that you can host online and have a printer send you.

If the product fits your audience naturally, start trying this way to make money on the blog.

Are you a commercial software developer?If not, maybe you have a good friend or former colleague who is.

In its simplest form, a software tool is something that people (your blog readers or even freelance clients) can use to automate a process or series of processes and avoid doing the task in more manual ways.

To give you a meta example of this in action right here, my blog runs on a theme called OptimizePress (for my CMS, WordPress).That WordPress theme is a software product I purchased, and since they release regular updates, it charges an annual subscription to receive updates and premium support.

It's possible to run a blog without using WordPress or a theme like OptimizePress, but the very visual nature of how this theme works, means I never have to touch a line of code or learn any coding language to make my blog work on a daily basis.

When OptimizePress was first launched, they created a software product that greatly simplified the process of running a visually appealing WordPress blog.It's worth paying, and I've been a customer for six years now.

Software and other digital products in this regard are not limited exclusively to themes such as WordPress themes.Other examples of software that can help you make money in blogging include things like:

  • Mobile applications
  • Productivity tools
  • Email Marketing Service Providers
  • Customer relationship management ( CRM ) tools
  • Video games too

If there is a process or series of tasks that people perform regularly, the software can be created to help automate or simplify those tasks and if you have an audience of readers who share this same challenge, you can easily earn money blogging by solving their needs through the software.

The fun part will work directly with a handful of readers to create and refine your software before releasing it into the world.

Selling your time, skills, and expertise as a service aligns quite closely with selling online (and freelance) courses, which we'll delve into later).

However, when it comes to selling your services, there's one big difference compared to selling courses: you're working one-on-one or in a small group with a client to provide help or personalized results.

The common theme, however, is that you're once again finding a clear skill that you already possess and use it to make money on the blog.

Services you can sell (among many, many other ways to make money online) include things like:

  • Consulting with companies on an hourly basis
  • Logo design on sites like 99 Designs or Dribbble
  • Instructing people about a monthly hold
  • Write blog content or copies for brands
  • Edit podcasts and use your audio engineering skills
  • Carry out search engine optimization projects for online brands
  • Creation of websites or software tools for established companies
  • If you have a skill, it can be offered as a service…

Given that services are often performed on a one-to-one basis and include working closely with one client at a time, this means that choosing this way to make money with blogging won't scale in the same way that affiliate revenue or course sales.

However, it can still be very profitable if you charge premium rates to established customers, making it worth it.

For example, let's say you're a business coach…

You can sell a course on how to market your business for $150.If you have a large audience, this could be a phenomenal way to make money with blogging.

If your audience isn't huge yet, however, you can take the approach of instead offering a smaller group of people a one-to-one coaching package for $500 or even a service made for you where you charge a monthly fee of $3,000 to manage all of their social media channels and grow their following.

It's a numbers game, and it's up to you to determine your value and time.That said, here's my guide to pricing your freelance services in a way that allows you to make money on blogging and save even more at the end of the year.

With every new sale you generate, the vast majority (if not all) of the profit comes directly to you, when you sell an eBook directly on your blog and collect payments through Stripe or PayPal.

No intermediaries.No publisher.No distributor No retail store.

This means that you will maintain the absolute maximum possible profit margin on your eBook sales.

In 2017 I was hired by Close to plan, produce, launch and orchestrate a virtual summit, their Inside Sales Summit.Over the course of three months, I recorded 55 video interviews with some of the world's most famous entrepreneurs and sellers.

I created a complete website using one of the best website builders around (WordPress), to host the virtual summit here, created each page, edited the videos, designed the graphics, established our promotional partnerships, and wrote the launch email sequences both Close and all of the partners used to promote the event.

As I said, virtual summits require a lot of work, but with this work can come wild profitability.

A virtual summit is a live (or pre-recorded) event that covers a specific topic with multiple guest speakers in tow.This is why I am constantly advocating for the importance of finding your tribe.

If you have a group of like-minded readers on your email list, each with their own communities that align with your messages, then you have an audience at a virtual summit waiting to be invited.

  • How many speakers do you want?
  • Will it be a live or in-person webinar-based summit?
  • Who would participate and when should it be?

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to put together your summit.

So promote, promote, promote.

How do you make blogs with a virtual summit?

Well, there are several ways to monetize a summit.

The easiest (and easiest) way to run your first round) is to sell tickets for admission.Anywhere from $20 to $200 is common depending on the industry.

You can discount prices for the first birds.Ask all your speakers to promote the event to their audience as well.

Another way to monetize your summit is to make admission to watch "live" for free and then sell a full access pass to anyone who wants the chance to watch speakers who missed (or watch again).

With either approach, you can make additional money with your top audience's blogs by selling them another product after the event concludes, such as an online course, e-book, or coaching package that expands on the concepts covered during the live summit.

Either way, creating a virtual summit will likely be your main goal for the quarter.

A business partnership can be as easy as an affiliate relationship as we have already described above.

However, it could also mean…

  • Working with a tech company to white-label their app and sell that version of it to your followers
  • Collaborate with another blogger to create a product together and market it to each other
  • Marking your salsa line with Williams Sonoma after your food blog takes off (as Gaby Dalkin did)

The point is that I keep talking about the importance of building your audience (long before you focus on learning how to make money with blogging).

This is so true for establishing win-win business partnerships.

Find other businesses or individuals that align with your audience, your goals, and most importantly, your plans on how to make money with blogging.

From there, all that's left is to find a way to work together so that all parties benefit.

11. Podcast sponsorships

If you're telling yourself how much you need to start a podcast…

Well, now is your chance.It will be a lot of fun, plus it can significantly help you make money with blogging.

My podcast is typically an annual source of four- to five-digit sponsorship revenue, with sponsorships from brands like Freshbooks, Monday.com, and Skillshare coming in at around $500/episode to get in front of my 30,000 monthly listeners.

Of course, when you're just starting out, you probably won't be able to establish similar sponsorship rates because your show probably won't immediately have thousands of listeners tuning in to hear what the show is about.

It will take time to build your listening.However, if you've already done a good job of creating content and attracting regular readers to your blog, you can launch your podcast with a bang promoting it heavily to your existing readers.

If you're short on time, you can start by taking your existing blog posts, turning them into spoken words, and starting to post them regularly as podcast episodes that talk about all of your blog's most popular content (and share previews of what you're working on right now).

Over the course of your first few months of podcasting, you'll likely attract more listeners in a very stable way if your show is fun and you discuss interesting topics or bring in exciting guests.Promote your show by introducing yourself as a guest on other podcasts, guest blogs, and building a social community to share new content with on a regular basis.

As we've already mentioned, if you're an experienced writer (or at least have enough fun to get better over time), then maybe you could start working as a freelancer to share your experience with clients who are willing to pay.
